Oncology appointment in Springfield 11-29-12

30 11 2012

Well today was a little disappointing!  I found out that my surgeon is St. Louis received my pathology slides but they can not do gene testing on slides so he has to request the tissue block.  This means a delay of at least 10 days to a couple of weeks for results.  In the mean time I am just setting here in limbo waiting to see what drug I can get.  The longer I wait the more my cancer can grow.  On a good note my new spot does not seem to be anything to worry about.  I think the hardest part of having cancer is waiting to see WHAT IS NEXT.  I am ready to start treatments so I can get this over with and move on to a normal life.  I guess I am not sure what normal is but it has to be better than living in the dark.  SO lets all live for today, make the most of it, and treasure your family and friends.

I am going to continue to work on this site so if you have any information that would be beneficial to share on melanoma please let me know.  I also have added a Photo gallery of my journey and surgeries so far.  The photos are not pretty but it give you an idea what I have gone through.  The link is at the top of the page.  If you click on the music player it will play a beautiful song while the slide show plays.  The song is by Chris Tomlin, “Whom Shall I Fear” from his new album Burning Lights.  Chris has a beautiful voice and his songs are amazing.  If you like him he will be performing here in Springfield at the convention center in March.

Patiently waiting

26 11 2012

I hope everyone had a nice Thanksgiving. I am thankful for a great weekend with family and friends. I am now patiently waiting for the results of the gene testing on my tumors. I am praying I have this B Raf gene as I think this sounds like my best chance for beating this terrible cancer. I am not looking forward to the side effects of the drugs but I do look forward to living as I have a lot left to do in this life.
Thanks to all if my family and friends for the support you show me daily and the strength you give me. I am truly blessed.

Hello world!

16 11 2012

Welcome to my first post

I hope this will be a good way to let others know how I am doing and what it is like to go through treatments for stage 4 nodular melanoma.  I will try to post as often as possible but fortunately I have a crazy busy schedule so it may get put on the back burner on occasions.  As for now I want to say welcome and that I am wishing everyone has a happy and memorable Thanksgiving shared with family and friends.
